Interview? Better be prepared

1. Prepare extensively

Research the company, its culture, and job challenges thoroughly in advance - it demonstrates your genuine interest.

2. Apply the STAR method to every job requirement

Situation - Provide context by explaining the challenge you faced.

Task - Clarify your specific role in that scenario.

Action - Detail the exact steps you took to address the task.

Result - Quantify the outcome to illustrate your success.

3. Develop numerous stories

Interviewers appreciate hearing stories - have several ready to highlight your skills.

Keep each story concise, ideally between 30 seconds to 1 minute, to maintain engagement.

4. Nail the first 5 minutes

Make a strong first impression by entering with confidence and speaking clearly.

Use a compliment to break the ice and help the interviewer warm up to you.

5. Be honest.

Always be truthful in interviews - dishonesty can be easily detected.

Honesty isn't just vital for interviews - it's a good life principle.

6. Avoid negativity

Refrain from criticizing previous colleagues or employers.

Maintain a positive tone and focus on what you have learned from difficult situations.

7. Highlight YOUR potential

Don’t worry if you don’t fit the job perfectly - emphasize your willingness and ability to learn quickly.

Concentrate on your actual achievements with specific examples, not just team efforts.

Focus on yourself and your qualities. Employers often value attitude over experience.

8. Balance your responses

Strive for a balance - provide sufficient detail without overexplaining.

Practice your responses to avoid rambling and to stay concise.

9. Take your time to think

It’s perfectly acceptable to pause and consider your response.

A brief pause shows you are thoughtful and deliberate in your answers.

10. When things aren't going well

If the interview isn’t going as planned, don’t fixate on it - concentrate on answering the next question well.

It’s okay to ask the interviewer if they need more information or clarification.

11. Moderate your questions at the end

Focus on the quality rather than the quantity of your questions - ask thoughtful ones.

12. The interview continues even after you leave
